RESOLUTION: 2007-13
SUBJECT: Award of Contract for 2007 Overlay and Patching Program
RECOMMENDATION:
Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Lafarge West Inc. in the amount of $3,264,937.99 for the 2007 Overlay and Patching Program.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
This contract is used to perform work on streets scheduled to be overlayed as part of the 2007 Resurfacing Program. This includes patching of failed street areas and placement of a new asphalt surface layer (asphalt overlay). In most cases, the street is rotomilled prior to placement of the new overlay, to remove excess asphalt and provide an acceptable profile to the street.
As the attached Bid Summary shows, the low bidder on the contract is Lafarge West Inc. with a bid of $3,264,937.99. Public Works recommends the contract be awarded to Lafarge West Inc., a qualified contractor.
The 2007 Resurfacing Program street list and map were posted in the Cabinet Room for council review in January and February. Contact Chris Jacobsen at 303-987-7951 with any questions you have regarding streets included in the 2007 program.
In August of 2006, City Council authorized increasing the Overlay Program by $1,448,469 to complete some streets scheduled for resurfacing in 2007 a year early. This was done due to the high inflation rate of asphalt prices, and indications that 2007 asphalt overlay prices would be considerably higher than 2006 prices. In fact, 2007 prices are 15% higher.
The 2007 Overlay Program has been reduced by $1,448,469 to restore the reserve funds used to increase the 2006 program.
