Request for Council Action - R-2007-6 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2007-6

SUBJECT: Approval for single source purchase of 60 golf carts and three ranger carts for The Homestead Golf Course and four ranger carts for Fox Hollow.

ADDRESS: 11500 W. Hampden Avenue

RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Community Resources recommends the approval of a single source purchase contract with EZ-Go Textron for the purchase of 60 golf carts and three ranger carts for The Homestead Golf Course and four ranger carts for Fox Hollow Golf Course.

FUNDING SOURCE: Golf Enterprise Fund

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: In 1993, after an evaluation of three manufacturers of golf carts, the Department of Community Resources purchased EZ-Go golf carts for the Fox Hollow Golf Course. Golf course staff have been extremely satisfied with the performance and reliability of the carts as well as the parts availability and service received over the past fourteen years. In 2002, the Department also purchased EZ-Go carts for the Homestead Golf Course. Performance, reliability, common parts and ease of maintenance are the factors that have led to the recommendation that replacement carts be purchased from EZ-Go as a single source purchase.

Purchasing has reviewed the quote, and recognizes the importance of economies of scale in having both golf courses using the same golf cart manufacturer. After this replacement purchase of golf carts for Homestead, both golf courses will be on the same replacement schedule.

EZ-Go has proposed favorable trade-in values for both the golf carts and the ranger carts.

The single source purchase will serve the customers of The Homestead well, in supplying them with a high quality product with an advantageous price to the City.
