RFCA-O-2007-16 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ORDINANCE: O-2007-16

SUBJECT: Approving a supplemental budget appropriation in the Grant Fund for traffic signal upgrade work.

RECOMMENDATION: Approval.

FUNDING SOURCE: Federal Safety Funds

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

On April 5, 2007, the City opened bids for the Lakewood Traffic Signal Project, Bid No. 2642. The lowest responsible, responsive and qualified bidder was Technology Constructors, Incorporated with a bid of $1,608,289. The project will improve safety by rebuilding the traffic signals at Kipling/Florida, Wadsworth/5th Avenue, Wadsworth/Morrison, Garrison/Alameda and Kipling/Colfax.

The bid amount exceeds the project budget but is deemed a competitive bid in the current environment of rising construction costs. CDOT has agreed to provide an additional $216,774 in federal safety funds to complete the project.

This ordinance approves the budget appropriation necessary for Lakewood to accept and spend the federal grant funds because the additional funds exceed the grant amount included in the approved budget.
