The meeting was called to order by co-chair Lisa Thompson
Minutes: The minutes from the April 2007 minutes were reviewed. Vickie asked
that a correction be made to the second line under City Council. It should state,
"legislation should be made". The minutes were approved with this
correction.
Introductions
Discussion:
Edie announced that the budget is not due until the end of June, but we need
to start working on it. In a discussion it was agreed to:
· Reduce the Jefferson County Good News Breakfast registration to $30
instead of $90
· Keep the Senior Lobby Newsletter to 2 subscriptions
· Keep the Senior Lobby Annual Meeting registration for 2 members until
we find out what the agenda will be.
· Eliminate the Lakewood on Parade materials.
This should free up approximately $160. Members will need to decide where to
use it in the budget.
Edie also said that Mel e-mailed her that he would like to have Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission business cards. Other members asked to have more brochures
printed. All agreed to invite people from the community who work with the senior
population to join our meetings, so that they can take back information to their
communities. It was suggested that we get information out through neighborhood
associations. The Communications Committee will get the list from the City Planning
Department. Edie will find out the cost of the business cards, brochures and
mailing costs.
Terry moved that we approve the budget as discussed. Ranee seconded.
Reports:
Edie announced that House Bill 1100 passed.
A survey from CDBG was passed out to everyone and was turned in.
Harry said that the Cultural Diversity Commission will have a new name.
Dave announced that the owner of Performance Now died. He is not certain if the last Play at the Cultural Center will still go on. The summer music programs are still planned. Russell asked if they consider and welcome seniors at these outdoor programs.
Ranee is having a difficult time getting the speaker about Elder law.
Terry will give a presentation on personal property at The Courtyard at Lakewood.
Russell has a concern for the frail elderly who are living at home. He is also concerned about the safety of those people living in assisted living and nursing homes. He asked the Commission, what could be done.
Lisa had a meeting with several people from the City regarding the Commission. They are meeting with the heads of all the Commissions and then they will compile the information in June.
The Mayor will read a proclamation for Older Americans Month at the next City Council meeting.
There will be public meetings on May 16 at 6pm and on the 17 at 3:30pm and 7pm at the Belmar Library, so that citizens can provide input to the development of the Community Resources Comprehensive Master Plan.
There will be a meeting at Creighton Jr. High on May 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 to discuss the master plan for the Federal Center.
Sue would like to see more outreach into the community included in the Commission's Working Action Plan goals.
The June meeting will be a working meeting. Please come prepared:
· Review of 2006 Goals and see if we need to carry any over to 2007/2008
· Discuss and develop goals for 2007/2008
· Finalize the budget
Remember to bring the 2006 Annual Report and the 2006/2007 Working Action Plan.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
