The meeting was called to order by co-chair Lisa Thompson

Minutes: The minutes from November 2006 were reviewed and approved as written. January 2007 minutes were reviewed and changes to add updates on committee reports were made. Edie will make needed changes and e-mail to Jackie for review and approval.

Presentation: Jeff Robertson, Active Minds, shared information on his program. Active Minds is an educational program for 50+ and seniors. Handouts were provided. Questions and answers along with discussion followed. This is a fee-based service.

Announcements: Status of termed members and the recruitment of new members were discussed. The commission is still waiting on resignation letters from members who have not been to a meeting in several months. Edie will follow up with a phone call. Deb Brown, staff in City Clerk's Office, updated the roster and e-mailed to Edie who provided a copy to commission members. There are three members who are due for reappointment. Edie will check on the process for reappointment and forward that information to those involved.

The 2006 Annual Report, prepared by George, was reviewed. Some minor changes were made prior to being submitted to Stacie Olton. The dead line was February 15, 2007. A verification was provided that the report was received.

John offered detail on the March 14, 2007 meeting, which is scheduled to be held at the Seniors' Resource Center 3227 Chase Street. The meeting will be from 4-6pm. John will provide commission members with a tour and information on the programs offered at SRC for seniors.

Committee Reports

Communications: George reported he was working with David A on the March copy of Take Care Caregiver Newsletter, e-mailed to Lakewood city employees.
He will submit an ad to be included in Live the Life. Edie will provide a copy of the LSCAC 2006 Annual Report.

Legislation: John reported that Senior Day at the Capitol will be February 21, 2007.
HB1100 is leaving the House. This bill, if approved, would raise the Older Coloradoans Fund from 3 million to 5 million, which fund many programs for seniors living in the community.
There has been discussion for lifting the smoking band on Assisted Living facilities and Nursing Homes.

City Council: Sue King reported that TMU (transit mixed use) 450 in participation including input form citizens did pass city council 9 to 2

City Staff: Edie told the members that Clements Community Center is promoting its VOA meal site. She provided flyers and coupons for a free meal, menus, and an activity calendar. Edie has hired an additional Support Services Specialist, Manny Folks. Manny will provide support services, i.e., information and referral to older adult occupants at the Residence at Creekside and also back David Appel up at Clements Center and Willow Glen. Edie provided commission members with an updated roster of City of Lakewood department directors. She handed out the Demographics in Jefferson County from DRCOG on census cohort along with age breakdown were provided.

Cultural Diversity Harry reported that a new committee is being formed to discuss the possibility of a name and mission change for the commission to reflect changes in the community.

Other News Ranee offered to arrange a speaker on Elder Law for our April meeting. Commission members felt this would be good information. Ranee will contact the speaker to verify his availability.

Carol offered information on a program on February 23, 2007--Creating a Community that Cares, which is design to help caregivers to reduce stress and is sponsored by Jane Burton with Hospice of Metro Denver. The cost is $25.
