Proclamation - Older Americans Month

P R O C L A M A T I O N

Recognizing May as
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is home to 23,674 citizens age 60 and better; and

WHEREAS, older adults should be recognized as diverse, respected citizens who contribute to our city's social and economic well-being; and

WHEREAS, 2007's theme is "Older Americans: Making Choices for a Healthier Future"; which reflects the importance of planning for and addressing the health and wellness needs of current and future generations; and

WHEREAS, older persons are entitled to live lives of dignity and to be provided services that encourage independence and self-sufficiency.


NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim and recognize May 2007 as

OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

in the City of Lakewood and commend our older American community.
