WHEREAS, Mark Simpson has demonstrated his musical talents through the mastery and study of the clarinet and piano; and

WHEREAS, Mark Simpson is both a talented musician and composer, receiving honors such as principal clarinet in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, British Broadcasting Corporation's Young Musician of the Year, and is the only person in the Liverpool Festival's 80 year history to win both the young instrumentalist and pianist of the year; and

WHEREAS, Mark Simpson composes many of his own works and is the first person to hold the honor of being both British Broadcasting Corporation's Young Musician of the Year and Young Composer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, we are pleased to welcome Mark Simpson into the ongoing Sister Cities Music Scholar Exchange Program.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Lakewood,
I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me do hereby recognize the Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar Mark Simpson and extend our best wishes to him during his exchange visit to Lakewood and throughout his musical career.
