City Council: Sue King

Staff: Edie Richey

Cultural Diversity Commission Liaison: Harry Cullis

Heritage, Culture & the Arts Liaison: Dave Wiechman

Guests: Susan Saito, West Metro Fire

Meeting called to order by Chairperson, Jackie Campeau at 4:05 p.m.

Minutes: October meeting minutes were reviewed by commission members present. A motion was made by John and seconded by Carolyn to approve the minutes without corrections. Motion approved unanimously.

Presentation: Susan Saito, West Metro Fire shared all the available resources through West Metro Fire including: Home Safety Checks for Independently Living Senior Citizens, Home Safety Checklist Fall & Fire Prevention, Community Outreach Programs, File for Life, Safety Fairs and smoke alarm distribution programs. 20% of all calls are fire related with the other 80% helping citizens with health emergencies or other concerns. Handouts were provided.

Most fires are arson by juveniles. If West Metro can reach and educate kids about the risks of fire by the age of 10 (5th grade), kids can then begin to understand the dangers of fire.

December Dinner: Will be held on December 13, 2006 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Johnny Carino's. Members' dinner will be paid for by the City but budget does not allow for guests.

Absent Members: It was decided that we should contact members that have not called or attended meetings for several months. If members are not returning, we need a letter of resignation so we can get new members on board.

Committee Reports:

Communications Committee: Helping with the Take Care Newsletter

Legislation Committee: John had to leave early so there was no report

City Council: Upcoming election in January was discussed.

City Staff: Edie discussed the need for a Program Development person.

Cultural Diversity Commission: Liaison Harry Cullis reported that they are still having community meetings and learning what the needs are of the Lakewood citizens. An important question being asked by the Commission is, "Is Lakewood welcoming?"

Heritage, Culture and the Arts: Liaison Dave Wiechman notified the committee that their director resigned. November 14th there will be a reception at Red Rocks for newly elected city, county, etc. officials.

Lakewood Police Department: No report

West Metro Fire Rescue Department: Presentation by Susan Saito, West Metro - See above.

Member activities:

Jackie and Carolyn have both attended the meeting for St. Anthony's with the next meeting on November 15 at the Sheridan Denver Hotel, 360 Union Blvd, Lakewood. 65 acres have been released from the Federal Center; 50 for St. A's & 15 for RTD which is only 10% of the total 644 acres. Property values along Union have increased 30% just because of the proximity to the proposed new hospital.

Adjournment: With no other comments, a motion to adjourn was made by Jackie Campeau, seconded by Ranee Sullivan. Approved by all. Meeting adjourned at 5:20.
