Request for Council Action for Resolution 2006-16 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2006-16

SUBJECT: Award of Contract for 2006 Overlay and Patching Program

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Premier Paving Inc. in the amount of $5,793,876.39 for the 2006 Overlay and Patching Program.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

This contract is used to perform work on the 52 miles of streets scheduled to be overlayed as part of the 2006 Resurfacing Program. This includes patching of failed street areas and placement of a new asphalt surface layer (asphalt overlay). In most cases, the street is rotomilled prior to placement of the new overlay, to remove excess asphalt and provide an acceptable profile to the street.

As the attached Bid Summary shows, the low bidder on the contract is Premier Paving Inc. with a bid of Five Million Seven Hundred Ninety Three Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy Six and 39/100 Dollars ($5,793,876.39). Public Works recommends the contract be awarded to Premier Paving Inc., a qualified contractor.

In January of 2006, the Resurfacing Program street list and map were posted in the Cabinet Room for council review. Contact Chris Jacobsen at 303-987-7951 with any questions you have regarding streets included in the 2006 program.
