RECOMMENDATION: Approval.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The project will construct a bikepath that provides a connection from the C-470 bikepath to the West 6th Avenue/Indiana Street area. The project improvements will build a bikepath extension around the northwest corner of the William Frederick Hayden Park and a section of bikepath in front of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Other areas of the path connection will be marked on-street or use existing bikepaths.

Golden staff with Lakewood as a co-sponsor submitted this proposal as a Transportation Improvement Plan project through Denver Regional Council Of Governments and was successful in obtaining federal funds. Lakewood staff will enter into an agreement with CDOT to design and administer construction of the improvements. Agreements with Golden and Jefferson County will provide a portion of local match funds reimbursement. It is anticipated that construction will be completed in 2007.

Federal funds totaling $428,000 have been allocated for the project. Lakewood, Golden and Jefferson County will equally share the local funding requirement estimated to be a total of $300,000. The money for Lakewood's share will be available from the Capital Improvement Fund.
