Request for Council Action - Resolution 2006-36 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2006-36

SUBJECT: Entering into an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for federal safety funding to upgrade traffic signals at three locations and realignment at a fourth.

RECOMMENDATION: Approval.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The following three signalized intersections are high-accident locations that need improved signal displays and equipment: Girton Drive/Kipling Parkway, 20th Avenue/ Kipling Street, and Colfax Avenue/Newland Street. The Colfax Avenue/Youngfield Street intersection is also a high accident location that can be improved by realigning the Youngfield Street approach. Lakewood submitted these locations as safety enhancements projects and was successful in obtaining federal safety funds.

Federal safety funds totaling $1,600,000 have been obtained for design and construction of the improvements. The City's contribution is estimated to be $5,000. Administration of the project must be coordinated through the CDOT in order to obtain the funds. The money for Lakewood's share is available from the Capital Improvement Fund.

FUNDING SOURCE: Federal Hazard Elimination Funds and Lakewood Capital Improvement Funds
