RESOLUTION: 2006-25
SUBJECT: Approval for single source purchase of 95 golf carts for Fox Hollow Golf Course.

RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Community Resources recommends the approval of a single source purchase contract with EZ-Go Textron for the purchase of 95 golf carts for Fox Hollow Golf Course.
FUNDING SOURCE: Golf Enterprise Fund
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: In 1993, after an evaluation of three manufacturers of golf carts, we purchased EZ-Go golf carts for the Fox Hollow Golf Course. We have been extremely satisfied with the performance and reliability of the carts as well as the parts availability and service we have received over the past thirteen years. We have developed a very good working relationship with EZ-Go. We maintain a stock of EZ-Go parts that are needed for routine, minor repairs. Our golf cart maintenance technician completed the EZ-Go golf cart maintenance certification training and this has extended the normal warranty period for the carts by one additional year. In 2002, we also purchased EZ-Go carts for the Homestead Golf Course. Performance, reliability, common parts and ease of maintenance are the factors that have led us to recommend that we purchase the replacement carts from EZ-Go as a single source purchase.
Purchasing has reviewed the quote, and recognizes the importance of economies of scale in having both golf courses using the same golf cart manufacturer. After the next replacement purchase of golf carts for Homestead, both golf courses will be on the same replacement schedule.
EZ-Go has proposed a very generous trade in value offer of $1,100 per cart or about 30%, after six years of use. The price of the individual carts is $3,739.26, less the trade in allowance of $1,100, reduces the price to $2,639.26 per cart. Original price paid in 1999 before trade in was $3,300 per cart.
The single source purchase will serve the customers of Fox Hollow well, in supplying them with a high quality product with an advantageous price to the City.
