Request for Council Action for Resolution 2006-13 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2006-13

SUBJECT: Bid award for 2006 Concrete Repair Program, Bid No. 2580

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Fasick Concrete Inc. in the amount of $1,856,679.05 for the 2006 Concrete Repair Program.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: This contract is used to perform concrete repair on streets scheduled to be resurfaced in 2006. This includes removal and replacement of deteriorated sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk, and drainage crosspans on 65 miles of streets scheduled to be overlayed and sealcoated in 2006 and 10 miles of streets scheduled for overlay in 2007. By performing some concrete repairs a year in advance, overlay work can begin early in the spring of the following year. Spring work is attractive to asphalt overlay contractors, and is reflected in bid prices.

In addition, the contract includes installation of curb ramps for disabled citizens on streets scheduled for resurfacing, and miscellaneous repairs at various other locations throughout the City.

The low bidder on the 2006 contract is Fasick Concrete Inc. This contractor is a qualified concrete repair contractor, and has successfully completed the Concrete Repair Program for the past 3 years.
