SUBJECT: Dissolution of the Westland Center Special Improvement District 20

RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Ordinance

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The Westland Center Special Improvement District 20 (SID) was created in 1992 and subsequently expanded in 1993. The SID was created as a financing mechanism to facilitate the redevelopment of the old Westland Mall site. The property owners within the site were required to pay annual assessments that were used to pay off the debt.
All of the assessments have been paid and the SID no longer has any debt. In order for the Department of Local Affairs to remove this SID from their list of active districts, a formal action by City Council is required. Approval of this ordinance meets this requirement.
