Meeting called to order by Co-Chairperson, Jackie Campeau at 4:00 p.m.
Minutes: March 8, 2006 meeting minutes were approved after adding John Lasswell's name to the attending members. Minutes for April 12, 2006 were approved.
Announcements:
Roice received a Proclamation from the City of Lakewood declaring May as Older
Americans Month. Roice received a "Senior Hero Award" on May 18, 2006
at the event sponsored by Seniors' Resource Center and Jefferson County Council
on Aging. The event was held at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center.
Citizens for Lakewood's Future (CFLF) would like someone to serve on their board from LSCAC. They meet the first Thursday of every month at Eaton Terrace at 5:15pm. Carolyn has agreed to attend.
John attended the Creekside Topping Off Celebration at 3:30pm on June 14, 2006. They have 60 low-income seniors on their waiting list. This is a low-income senior living facility located at 1700 Pierce Street in Lakewood.
Committee Reports:
Communications Committee:
George has prepared a Proclamation to the City Council in appreciation to Lakewood
for the "Project Lifesaver" and the "Senior Visitation Program".
Jackie will contact the Mayor's Office and schedule a date to present this at
City Council.
Legislation Committee:
John says June 15, 2006 is "Crimes Against Seniors Day."
City Council:
Sue and Vicki announced that City Council has passed an animal ordinance against
aggressive animals, not breed specific. They also announced that Ward 4 and
Ward 1 will have a meeting at Green Mountain Presbyterian Church from 9am to
10am on Saturday, which is open to residents.
Vicki attending the "Topping Off Celebration" at Creekside.
City Staff: No report.
Cultural Diversity Commission: No report.
Heritage, Culture and the Arts:
Many summer activities are planned. Concerts in the park have started. The Arts
Foundation would like to schedule speakers. Please call Dave Weichman.
Member activities:
Terry is attending RTD meetings.
Lisa is meeting with Sgt. Al Padilla, of the Lakewood Police Department, as
a liaison for seniors.
Review, Revise, and Adopt the Annual Work Plan. Jackie has the notes on the changes that were made to the Plan.
Bill Minard is receiving e-mails from Denver about senior activities, events, and problems.
The Commission would like Edie to send legislative information to Terry, John, and Sharon.
The July meeting will be held on July 12, 2006. Sharon will bring refreshments.
The Commission would like to have a "Coffee with Dennis" from RTD present a program.
