III. COMMISSIONER REPORTS
Partnerships: Commissioner Karen Kellen
No report.

Events: Commissioner Elzia Sekou
The Commission will not participate in the Cherry Creek Diversity Conference and will request if the Youth Commission would like to participate. Lakewood Scrub and Fusion Fest are two more events the Commission will not support. The Commission will continue to support the Art Experience at Lakewood on Parade and assist Red Rocks Community College with the Martin Luther King Day event. It was suggested that we request the Youth Commission to assist with the Martin Luther King Day event and the Art Experience. Commissioner Sekou stated that volunteers are needed for the Art Experience. He will follow up with Margaret Sawyer on the funding and the logistics of the Art Experience.

Awareness Through Media Tools: Commissioner Harry Cullis
Commissioner Cullis stated that their survey is presently being analyzed. Harry met with the City's webmaster regarding putting the survey information on the Commission's web page. Chair Rick Lopez and Commissioner Cullis felt that it was not worthwhile to put this on the web page because of the complexity of what the audience needed to do to get this information. However, they are still waiting for the response on the analysis of the survey.

Red Rocks Community College Liaison: Commissioners Cuellar and Roybal - Commissioner Roybal attended the Red Rocks Community College Diversity Council on Wednesday, March 30. Caesar Chavez Day was celebrated on March 30 with outdoor activities. The Holocaust speakers are scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 14. Cinco de Mayo will be held on Thursday, May 5 and activities will be held from 11:00 - 1:00 in the Student Center. Day of Silence will be held on Wednesday, April 13. The Diversity Council will be reviewing logos and council members will vote on the entries.

Senior Advisory Commission: Commissioner Cullis - Harry advised that Royce Horning was recently re-elected as Chairman of the Senior Advisory Commission.

IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Commissioner Bellen will bring the sample of the Commission's brochure to the June meeting, and Commission members can make changes at that time.

V. NEW BUSINESS
Commissioner Sisneros reported that he met with Mario Hernandez, Jerry Natividad, and Pete Roybal regarding the Hispanic Heritage Celebration scheduled in September with hopes that it can be hosted in the City of Lakewood. They are in the preliminary stages of organizing this event. It was suggested that Niña Johnson from the Heritage, Culture and the Arts be contacted to assist with this event. Deb Rosenthal of the Jefferson County Diversity Council was another person to contact about this event for ideas or suggestions.

Mayor Burkholder and Councilor Green-Martin suggested that Commissioners Sisneros and Roybal contact the Lakewood on Parade committee since they are familiar with the rules about alcohol and the operation of their event. The Lakewood on Parade committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th at 5:30 p.m. at the Clements Center.

Commissioner Sekou also advised that the Commission has requested and received the $3,000.00 allocated for the Art Experience this year.

The ward locations for July, September and November will have to be determined by the next meeting so that it can be put on Channel 8.

VI. ANNOUNCEMENTS
With respect to the City's financial picture, the Mayor stressed the seriousness of the situation Lakewood is facing. There are three major causes: the low sales tax rate, Internet sales, and rising costs. He stated there would be two public meetings held this year to educate the citizens on the City's financial picture. They are tentatively scheduled for May 7 and May 14 at the Green Mountain Presbyterian Church and the Learning Source. There would be a ballot issue in the future to raise Lakewood's sales tax rate.

VII. ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Commission, a motion was made by Commissioner Sekou to adjourn and seconded by Commissioner Cullis. The meeting was adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
