REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2005-80

SUBJECT: Resolution supporting a grant application to Jefferson County Open Space for funding for the playground improvements at Lakewood Park.

ADDRESS: 150 South Kipling Parkway, Lakewood, CO 80226

RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Community Resources recommends that City Council approve the resolution supporting the grant application to Jefferson County Open Space requesting funding for playground improvements at Lakewood Park.

FUNDING SOURCE: The total project budget for the playground improvements at Lakewood Park is $125,000. The grant application to Jefferson County Open Space will request $67,500. If the grant is approved, the Community Resources Department will utilize necessary matching general funds.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Playground improvements are sought to replace the existing equipment, originally installed in 1984. Due to its age, weather, current ADA and safety standards, high use, and other factors, the equipment is currently in poor condition, with many of the original elements no longer in place. Quality playground improvements will address these concerns while providing new and fun opportunities for recreation to the park's high number of users.
