SUBJECT: Bid award for Wadsworth and 26th Avenue Intersection Improvements
RECOMMENDATION: Approval
FUNDING SOURCES: Federal Safety Funds
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City of Lakewood entered into an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation to construct improvements to upgrade the traffic signal with more visible displays and improve the roadway alignment for Wadsworth at 26th Avenue. This project was awarded federal safety funds based on the number of accidents at the intersection. The City designed, bid and will provide construction management for the project.
On September 1, 2005 the City opened bids for the Wadsworth and 26th Avenue Improvement Project, Bid No. 2543. The lowest responsible, responsive and qualified bidder was WL Contractors, Inc. with a bid of $277,829.50. An additional $17,170.50 is requested for contingencies for a total not to exceed contract amount of $295,000. The cost of the contract will be paid entirely from Federal Safety Funds. Federal funds will also reimburse Lakewood for some staff costs for design and construction management.
