A RESOLUTION

ADOPT THE NATIONAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (NIMS) WHICH WILL PROVIDE A CONSISTENT NATIONWIDE APPROACH FOR FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO WORK TOGETHER DURING AND AFTER A LARGE-SCALE EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the President, in Homeland Security Directive (HSPD) - 5, directed the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to develop and administer a National Incident Management System (NIMS); and

WHEREAS, it is necessary and desirable that all federal, state, and local emergency agencies coordinate their efforts to effectively and efficiently provide the highest levels of incident management; and;

WHEREAS, the NIMS standardized procedures for managing personnel, communications, facilities and resources will improve the City of Lakewood's ability to maintain first responder safety, and streamline incident management processes; and

WHEREAS, Homeland Security Directive - 5 requires state and local adoption of the National Incident Management System as a condition for receiving federal preparedness funding.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council for the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The City Council does hereby establish the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as the standard for incident management.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 10 for and 0 against at a regular meeting of the City Council on July 11, 2005 at 6 o'clock p.m. at Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
