It is further recommended that 10 percent of the contract amount, $253,255.33, be authorized by City Council in the event unanticipated work is needed to complete the streets scheduled for overlay and patching in 2005. FUNDING SOURCE: Capital Improvement Fund - Street Resurfacing

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

This contract is used to perform work on streets scheduled to be overlayed as part of the 2005 Resurfacing Program. This includes patching of failed street areas and placement of a new asphalt surface layer (asphalt overlay). In most cases, the street is rotomilled prior to placement of the new overlay, to remove excess asphalt and provide an acceptable profile to the street.

As the attached Bid Summary shows, the low bidder on the contract is Asphalt Paving Company with a bid of $2,532,553.29. Public Works recommends the contract be awarded to Asphalt Paving Company, a qualified contractor.

The 2005 Resurfacing Program street list and map were posted in the Cabinet Room for council review from January 3, 2005 to February 3, 2005. Contact Chris Jacobsen at 303-987-7951 with any questions you have regarding streets included in the 2005 program.
