Request for Council Action for Ordinance O-2005-15 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ORDINANCE: 0-2005-15

SUBJECT: Compensation for the Municipal Court Judges

RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of an Ordinance, which sets the salaries for the Presiding Judge, Municipal Judges and Part-time Associate Municipal Judges.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Each year the Judges Salary Committee meets to make a recommendation on the annual compensation for the presiding municipal judge, two municipal judges and part-time associate municipal judges in the Municipal Court. The Salary Committee has met and is recommending the following salaries: $109,241 for the presiding municipal judge and $104,587 for the municipal judges. The additional compensation for the presiding municipal judge covers the administrative duties assigned to that position. The committee also recommends $66.00 per hour for the part-time associate municipal judges.

Just like all city employees, municipal judges did not receive a salary increase last year. The salaries for 2003 were $106,369 for the presiding municipal judge and $101,837 for the municipal judges. The proposed salaries reflect a 2.7 percent increase. Part-time associate judges hourly rate was increased by one dollar. Salaries will be retroactive to March 27, 2005. This is the same day other employees' salary adjustments take effect.
