Dear Mr. Seymour:
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the selfless actions and quick thinking you demonstrated to assist agents of the Lakewood Police Department on April 29, 2005.
That Friday shortly after noon, you were working at the grocery store on South Sheridan Boulevard. You noticed a commotion near the handicapped parking spaces as an 82-year-old woman stepped from her vehicle to do her grocery shopping. Two teenagers were near her car when one rushed up and grabbed her purse, violently knocking her to the ground. Seeing his victim down and unable to defend herself, the assailant fled on foot taking the purse with him.
You immediately began chasing the purse-snatcher along with two other witnesses who were intent on stopping him and recovering the stolen handbag. You pursued him through the parking lot, between the store and another business, then toward the fenced backyard of a nearby residence. You repeatedly yelled at the teenager to "drop the purse" and "give it up." He finally complied, dropping the handbag shortly before he climbed over the fence escaping into the neighboring backyard.
Not knowing whether the suspect was armed, the three of you wisely decided against pursuing him any farther. The excellent descriptions offered by each of you greatly assisted police to set up a perimeter and ultimately arrest the suspect. Your willingness to get involved without regard for your own personal safety was essential to the retrieval of property and identification of a violent offender preying on those unable to defend themselves.
Therefore, Mr. Seymour, it is my distinct pleasure to award you with the Citizen's Commendation "for rendering significant assistance" to the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department in the achievement of their mission.
Sincerely,
Ronald R. Burns

Dear Mr. Salas:
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the selfless actions and quick thinking you demonstrated to assist agents of the Lakewood Police Department on April 29, 2005.
That Friday shortly after noon, you were working your route as a United States postal carrier when you entered the parking lot of a grocery store on South Sheridan Boulevard. You saw two men chasing a young man running through the parking lot. Instinctively and without hesitation, you joined the chase in your postal truck, simultaneously calling the Lakewood Police Department dispatch center on your cell phone to provide vital information to responding agents.
The three of you were intent on stopping the suspect and recovering the stolen purse. You all pursued him through the parking lot, between the store and another business, then toward the fenced backyard of a nearby residence. You repeatedly yelled at the teenager to "drop the purse" and to "give it up." He finally complied, dropping the handbag shortly before he climbed over the fence escaping into the neighboring backyard.
Not knowing whether the suspect was armed, the three of you wisely decided against pursuing him any farther. The cell phone call and excellent descriptions offered by each of you greatly assisted police to set up a perimeter and ultimately arrest the suspect. Your willingness to get involved without regard for your own personal safety was essential to the retrieval of property and identification of a violent offender preying on those unable to defend themselves.
Therefore, Mr. Salas, it is my distinct pleasure to award you with the Citizen's Commendation "for rendering significant assistance" to the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department in the achievement of their mission.

Dear Mr. Greenfield:
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the selfless actions and quick thinking you demonstrated to assist agents of the Lakewood Police Department on April 29, 2005.
That Friday shortly after noon, you were coming to work at the grocery store on South Sheridan Boulevard. You noticed a commotion near the handicapped parking spaces as an 82-year-old woman stepped from her vehicle to do her grocery shopping. The suspect finally complied, dropping the handbag shortly before he climbed over the fence escaping into the neighboring backyard.
Not knowing whether the suspect was armed, the three of you wisely decided against pursuing him any farther. Instead, you collected the discarded purse and safely returned it and all its contents to the elderly woman being treated inside the store.
Greenfield, it is my distinct pleasure to award you with the Citizen's Commendation "for rendering significant assistance" to the men and women of the Lakewood Police Department in the achievement of their mission.
