Older Americans' Month Proclamation


P R O C L A M A T I O N

Recognizing May as
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

WHEREAS, Over 47 million Americans are 60 years old or older; and

WHEREAS, this is our opportunity to honor our senior residents for their enrichment of our community; and

WHEREAS, 2005's theme is "Celebrate Long-Term Living," which reflects that more choices are available than the long-term institutional care that once was the primary option; and

WHEREAS, older Americans assist others to understand the past, are teachers of courage, endurance and love; and

WHEREAS, through their dedication, service and responsibility, older Americans also serve as role models for our younger generations.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim and recognize May 2005 as

OLDER AMERICANS MONTH

in the City of Lakewood and commend our older American community.
