Recognizing Simon Vlies
Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar
Representing Chester, England
WHEREAS, Simon Vlies has demonstrated his musical talents through the mastery and study of the violin; and
WHEREAS, Simon Vlies began his musical career at the age of five studying with Win Conway, and has participated in regional festivals winning the "Most Promising Talent" at the Flint Young Musician of the Year in 2001; and
WHEREAS, as a music scholar at Abbey Gate College, Simon has participated in numerous musical and theatrical activities. He has had the opportunity to be part of the chapel choir and has sung in cathedrals throughout Britain, has toured in Europe and the United States and has been a part of "The Saightonians" barbershop group; and
WHEREAS, he has performed in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with the Crosby Symphony Orchestra, is currently studying at Birmingham University, and plays with the Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras while continuing his choral endeavors with the Birmingham University singers; and
WHEREAS, Simon Vlies will be entertaining audiences during his visit to Lakewood; and
WHEREAS, we are pleased to welcome Simon into the ongoing Sister Cities Music Scholar Exchange Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me do hereby recognize the Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar

and extend our best wishes to him during his exchange visit to Lakewood and throughout his musical career.
