Recognizing Melissa Graham
Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar
Representing Lakewood, Colorado

WHEREAS, Melissa Graham has demonstrated her musical talents through the mastery and study of the flute; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Graham is a sophomore at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music where she is a member of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. She studies with Pamela Endsley, principal flute with the Colorado Symphony; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, Melissa Graham performed in the Olympic Celebration Concert in Nagano, Japan and gave recitals in various cities and schools during her visit in an effort to encourage young students to enter the field of music; and

WHEREAS, other accolades in Melissa's repertoire include winning the Mostly Strauss Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2000, which resulted in performing with the Strauss Orchestra and a monetary award; receiving the "Outstanding Instrumental Music Student" award at Pomona High School in l998, l999 and 2001 and receiving a graduation scholarship from the Pomona Music Boosters; and

WHEREAS, Melissa will be performing on March 31 with the Lakewood Symphony and will present a solo recital in Lakewood prior to leaving for Chester, England this summer where she will be involved in various venues to further demonstrate her outstanding talents.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me do hereby recognize the Lakewood/Chester Sister Cities Music Exchange Scholar

and extend our best wishes to her during her exchange visit to Chester, England and throughout her musical career.
