Young AmeriTowne Week

P R O C L A M A T I O N

Recognizing January 10-15, 2005 as Young AmeriTowne Week

WHEREAS, Young AmeriTowne provides unique hands-on lessons that introduce young people to the basic principles of our economic system; and

WHEREAS, participants experience banking, marketing, customer service, supply and demand and government and legal systems while in Young AmeriTowne; and

WHEREAS, students learn how an economy works, how businesses operate and how to manage personal and business finances; and

WHEREAS, more than 150,000 students have participated in the program since it started; and

WHEREAS, the pilot program for Young AmeriTowne occurred with Jefferson County Public School students at Red Rocks Community College in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Young AmeriTowne at Belmar now has a new facility at 401 S. Pierce St. in Lakewood known as the West Campus; and

WHEREAS, the new facility will help the program reach 14,000 participants locally; and

WHEREAS, the new facility will have its grand opening celebration from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 15.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim the week of January 10-15 as Young AmeriTowne Week in the City of Lakewood.
