RESOLUTION: 2004-85
SUBJECT: Bid Award for Neighborhood Storm Drainage Improvements
RECOMMENDATION: Approval.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: On September 14, 2004 bids for the Neighborhood Storm Drainage Improvements Project, Bid No. 2487, were opened and the firm of Wycon Construction Company was the lowest responsive, responsible and qualified bidder with a bid of $76,813.00. Public Works recommends an additional $10,000 for contingencies and potential change orders for a total contract amount not to exceed $86,813.00.
This project provides relief from stormwater flows in the neighborhoods of 590 Lamar Court and South Kipling Street at Vassar Way. At 590 Lamar Court, stormwater runoff collects in the street at the northwest corner of the property, flows overland along the north property line and floods the north side of the house. Proposed improvements to diminish flooding include an inlet in Lamar Court, at the northwest corner of the property, and a drainage pipe running along rear and side property lines to an existing storm drain crossing West 6th Avenue. A surface swale over the new storm drainage pipe will also be constructed to provide additional capacity in the event of larger storms or blockage of the inlet and pipe due to debris.
At South Kipling Street and Vassar Way, an inlet connecting into an existing storm drain line is being installed on the east side of South Kipling Street north of Vassar Way to alleviate stormwater flows washing significant amounts of debris onto private property.
