RESOLUTION: 2004-75

SUBJECT: Approval of a Design Contract Amendment for Final Design of Lena Gulch Stabilization Improvements

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council approve a contract amendment with McLaughlin Water Engineers (MWE), in an amount of $21,262, for a revised total contract amount not to exceed $78,362 to complete final design for the Lena Gulch Stabilization Improvement project.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City contracted with MWE to design this project in the fall of 2002. City staff and MWE have been working since 2002 with property owners along a 500-foot reach of Lena Gulch upstream of West 20th Avenue to correct bank erosion problems and prevent future erosion.

During the course of the final design process, additional work became necessary that was not part of the original contract. The additional work includes the following:

1. Additional design work and easement changes resulting from negotiations with property owners,
2. Design and easement changes due to requirements of the Corp of Engineers in order to obtain a permit for construction, and
3. Additional mapping work to confirm that the design will not adversely impact an adjacent property.

The current estimated construction cost is $270,000. The Urban Drainage and Flood Control District will fund construction. It is anticipated that construction will begin this fall.

FUNDING SOURCE: Stormwater Management Utility Enterprise Fund.
