RESOLUTION: 2004-71

SUBJECT: Bid award for Alameda/Jewell Avenue Safety Project

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends a contract with New Design Construction Company in an amount not to exceed $513,305.10.

FUNDING SOURCES: Federal Safety Funds

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City of Lakewood entered into an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation to construct improvements to the Alameda and Jewell intersection. The project will enclose an open drainage channel on the west side of the intersection. The project will also include overlaying the west half of Alameda both north and south of the intersection. The City designed, bid, and will provide construction management for the project.

On July 1, 2004, the City opened bids for the Alameda/Jewell Safety Improvement Project, Bid No. 2478. The lowest responsible, responsive and qualified bidder was New Design Construction Company, with a bid of $466,641.00. An additional $46,664.10 or 10% is requested for contingencies for a total not to exceed contract amount of $513,305.10. The cost of the work will be paid entirely from Federal Safety Funds. Federal funds will also reimburse Lakewood for staff costs for design and construction management.
