RESOLUTION: 2004-59

SUBJECT: Amending an Intergovernmental Agreement with Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (Metro) to delegate additional Pretreatment /Industrial Waste Control Program responsibilities from Lakewood's Sanitary Sewer Utility to Metro.

RECOMMENDATION: Approval.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: In 1994, Lakewood's Sanitary Sewer Utility entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (Metro) to delegate a significant portion of Pretreatment /Industrial Waste Control Program responsibilities to Metro. Metro has a trained staff that routinely deals specifically with pretreatment/industrial waste controls issues.

Lakewood's Sanitary Sewer Utility was still responsible for annually providing to Metro an updated report identifying all industrial business sites located within the sewer utility service area. Metro has now offered to update this report annually at no additional charge to the sewer utility. Metro staff members will coordinate as needed with Lakewood Engineering, Building Permits and Sales Tax staff to gather information on industrial business uses within the sewer utility's service area.
