A RESOLUTION

AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF THE LAKEWOOD YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION AND APPOINTING MEMBERS THERETO

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakewood created an ad hoc youth advisory commission pilot program in May, 2003,and;

WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the ad hoc youth commission's contributions to the City of Lakewood; and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to create an ongoing mechanism for communicating with the young people of Lakewood and receiving their valuable opinions on projects and programs that effect the youth of Lakewood.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The Lakewood Youth Commission is hereby established.

SECTION 2. It is the objective of Lakewood City Council to have the membership of the Lakewood Youth Commission consist of ten high school students and five middle school students, when possible.

SECTION 3. The Lakewood Youth Commission shall advise and inform City Council regarding activities and issues affecting the youth of Lakewood.

SECTION 4. The following persons are hereby appointed as charter members to the Lakewood Youth Commission and shall serve initial terms as follows. Subsequent terms shall be three-years. As a condition of membership, each person must be enrolled in a middle school, high school, or equivalency education program.

SECTION 5. Mayor shall appoint a minimum of one City Council member to serve as liaison to the Lakewood Youth Commission.

SECTION 6. The Lakewood Youth Commission shall provide meeting schedules and written minutes of their meetings to the City Council.
