A RESOLUTION

AUTHORIZING THE ENTERING INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR AN URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE GRANT

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The United States Department of Homeland Security, Office of Domestic Preparedness awarded an Urban Area Security Initiative Grant to the City and County of Denver; and

SECTION 2. The purpose of the grant is to allow the Denver urban area to prepare for and to enhance its capacity to prevent, mitigate, respond and recover from terrorist attacks, as well as improve the ability of emergency personnel to respond to such incidents if they do occur; and

SECTION 3. The twenty-four governmental entities entering into this intergovernmental agreement do so agree to work together to accomplish the purpose of the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant; and

SECTION 4. Denver has undertaken responsibility for administrating the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant; and

SECTION 5. Denver will assist in providing equipment and resources to participating governmental agencies contiguous to Denver's boundaries; and

SECTION 6. It would be in the best interest of the City of Lakewood to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to receive support for enhanced emergency preparedness, and cooperate in the planning, training, and evaluating associated with the implementation of the security initiative.

SECTION 7. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Clerk to attest an intergovernmental agreement for an Urban Area Security Initiative Grant, in a form approved by the City Attorney.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 11 for and 0 against at a regular meeting of the City Council on April 12, 2003, at 7 o'clock p.m. at the Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
