SUBJECT: Regional identification and mitigation plans for reducing the City's vulnerability to natural hazards.

RECOMMENDATION: Approve

SUMMARY AND BACKROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: On October 15, 2003, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) adopted the Denver Regional Natural Hazards Plan. The plan fulfills a requirement of the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 which provides grant funding to local governments for pre and post disaster mitigation purposes. To be eligible for these grant funds, the Act requires that each local government adopt the Denver Regional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. The plan contains risk assessments for 13 natural hazards and action strategies from 18 participating cities, including Lakewood.
