Untitled Document REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2004-1

SUBJECT: Acceptance of bid #2445 and award of contract for the Bear Creek / Simms Street Trail Connection

ADDRESS: 3900 South Simms Street, Lakewood, CO 80033

RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Community Resources recommends the acceptance of bids for the Bear Creek / Simms Street Trail Connection and to award a contract to L & M Enterprises, Inc., in the amount of seventy-one thousand, seven hundred two and fifty one hundredths dollars ($71,702.50) for the work.

FUNDING SOURCE: Jefferson County Open Space

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Jefferson County recently finished the roadway connection from Quincy Avenue to U.S.285 (Hampden Avenue). The project included pedestrian and bicycle improvements to U.S. 285. The final link between the intersection and the existing Bear Creek Trail in Bear Creek Lake Park was not included in the County road work. Jefferson County Open Space believes the connection is important and has allocated funding to complete the connection. Since the connection is in the City of Lakewood and on property leased from the Army Corp by the City, Open Space requested the City to bid and manage the project. The connection will provide a good access to the Bear Creek Trail system for pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians.
