ITEM 3. PRESENTATION - Metro Vision 2030
Mayor Burkholder introduced Councilwoman Carol Kesselman as the City of Lakewood's
representative to the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG).
Councilwoman Kesselman explained that DRCOG is an organization representing
51 cities and counties in the Denver metropolitan area. The organization focuses
on issues relating to water, air quality, transportation, and senior citizens.
Ms. Kesselman said Councilman Ed Peterson, in attendance, serves as her alternate
to DRCOG, and Ms. Linda Capra, also in attendance, is involved with DRCOG as
well.
She said the topic for this Study Session is Metro Vision 2030, an effort to update the existing Metro Vision Plan by extending it another 10 years. Metro Vision is a long-range plan for the growth and development of the Denver Metropolitan Area adopted in 1997.
The Councilors watched a 12-minute video presentation on the plan.
Linda Capra, DRCOG Board Liason, addressed the City Council. Ms. Capra explained that this is the first time senior citizen issues are taken into consideration in the Metro Vision Plan. Currently, 12% of the metro population is 60 years old or more, and that figure is anticipated to double over the next 10 years. DRCOG feels these figures represent a need to include senior citizen issues in the Metro Vision 2030 Plan.
Frank Gray, Director of Community Planning & Development, told City Council that the City of Lakewood works very closely with DRCOG and they are very good about incorporating local plans.
ITEM 4. OPEN DISCUSSION
Councilwoman Herbst said she had received several phone calls asking about the city's curfew ordinance. City Attorney Roger Noonan explained there is a nighttime loitering by juveniles ordinance but not one pertaining to curfew.
Councilman Ray Elliott asked about the status of the Hollywood Legend's site, and Laura Bock, Liquor Licensing Specialist said she had received an application for a Non-alcoholic Dance Club license at that location.
City Manager Mike Rock told the City Councilors the city was not successful in securing another use at that location.
