Recognizing Kathy Swanson
WHEREAS, Kathy Swanson has been a dedicated educator for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is extremely pleased and honored that Kathy teaches at a school in the city; and
WHEREAS, as the instructional coach at Stein Elementary, Kathy has worked with students who are at risk of struggling with their education; and
WHEREAS, Kathy helped write and carry out the literacy plan that has increased the reading scores at Stein by 12 points; and
WHEREAS, Kathy is the kind of dedicated teacher who spends weekends writing grants and her summer vacation catching up on new teaching techniques; and
WHEREAS, because of these attributes, she has received the Milken National Educator Award, known as the "Oscars of teaching"; and
WHEREAS, the award honors high-caliber, highly effective professionals who
are picked without their knowledge by a blue-ribbon panel appointed by each
state's department of education; and
WHEREAS, Kathy joins an elite group of only 74 educators in Colorado and 2,077
nationally who have received a Milken National Educator Award since it began
in 1987.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby recognize Kathy Swanson for her contributions as an extraordinary teacher.
