Dear Mr. Scott:
It is my pleasure to present you with this Citizen Commendation for the assistance
you provided to agents of the Lakewood Police Department on June 30, 2004.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. on the evening of June 30, Agents Ricky Valdez and
Brent Struck were engaged in a foot pursuit in the area of West 10th Avenue
and Carr Street. The juvenile they were chasing had escaped from the Mount View
Detention Center approximately two weeks prior. Agent Rich Griner, who had responded
and set up on the perimeter, spoke with you informing you of the pursuit and
requesting that you call the police if you spotted the young man.
When you saw the juvenile in the area of West 10th Avenue and Balsam, you yelled
to him to stop because the police were looking for him; however the juvenile
began to run even faster, at which time you gave chase for two blocks. When
the juvenile realized you were gaining ground on him, he immediately went prone
on the ground, allowing Agent Rich Griner to successfully take the escapee into
custody without incident. The police were able to capture the juvenile largely
because of your actions.
It is clear that you showed a great deal of courage, initiative and commitment to help the Lakewood Police Department successfully apprehend this felon. It is with great appreciation and thanks that we honor you tonight for your assistance.
