Recognition of Scott Tucker
WHEREAS, Scott Tucker served as the executive director of the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District from March 1972 until his retirement on July 1, 2004; and
WHEREAS, his work had a direct effect on Lakewood by helping to create a flood warning system on Lena Gulch and by creating a vision for a comprehensive program to manage the major drainages in the metro area; and
WHEREAS, during his 32 years as executive director, he was instrumental in creating metrowide cooperation to improve the management of stormwater runoff. His guidance has created cost efficiencies that have helped Lakewood and other metro cities; and
WHEREAS, Scott also represented the City of Lakewood on the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District Board of Directors from 1991 to 2001 while he was a Lakewood resident; and
WHEREAS, his leadership is reflected in the honors he has received. In 1979 and 2003, the American Public Works Association named Scott a "Top Ten Leader of the Year." In 2000, the Colorado chapter of the same association named him the William E. Korbitz Leader of the Year; and
WHEREAS, he has contributed personally to the community through his membership in the Bicycle Racing Association, the National Ski Patrol System and through his church.
NOW THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby recognize Scott Tucker on his retirement from the district.
