P R O C L A M A T I O N
Recognizing May 24, 2004 as
NADYA HILL DAY

WHEREAS, Nadya Hill has demonstrated her musical talents through the mastery of the violin; and

WHEREAS, Nadya is a sophomore at Columbine High School and has studied violin for 10 years with Jacqueline and James Maurer; and

WHEREAS, she has won numerous competitions including the Plymouth Congregational Church Young Artist Competition, she was Concertmaster for the Western State Honor Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, and was Associate Concertmaster for Colorado All State Orchestra in 2004. She is the current Co-Concertmaster of the Front Range Youth Symphony; and

WHEREAS, for the last five years, Nadya was a soloist in the Honor's Recitals at the Colorado Suzuki Institute and has soloed on numerous occasions with "Up Close and Musical," the educational ensemble of the Colorado Symphony; and

WHEREAS, Nadya also enjoys playing with the Kendula String Quartet, which performed at the National Teacher's Conference in Minneapolis. She also enjoys performing with her musical family for libraries and schools, step dancing, acting, singing, playing the Irish Folk Harp, painting, drawing, skiing, camping, physics and cosmology; and

WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is extremely proud that Nadya will represent our City as the Jefferson County Sister Cities Music Scholar Competition winner for 2004. She will perform in a recital on June 7 at the Lakewood Cultural Center and in multiple venues during her visit to our sister city of Chester, England, later this summer.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim May 24, 2004 as

NADYA HILL DAY

in the City of Lakewood, and extend our best wishes to her throughout her musical and lifelong endeavors.
