CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Bob Zachman called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL

The public comment book was out and made available for public sign in.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes from March 17, 2004 were approved by a unanimous vote with the correction that the SCFD speaker's bureau has been set up for about a year.

· Niña Johnson introduces two new staff members, Jennifer Planey and Barb Fuller. Jennifer and Barb gave a brief update of their duties etc.

GOOD NEWS
¨ Jennifer Sylman shared that the Sister City exchange student stayed with her family and she was able to accompany him while he performed.
¨ Susan Martin gave a brief update on the Sister City Music Scholar Exchange program. It is an exchange program with the Chester, England, it's in its 18th year.
¨ Dave Wiechman announced that the remaining money for the Three Generations Sculpture had been acquired. Special congratulations to Barb Martin for her hard work and dedication in obtaining the sculpture.
¨ Bob Zachman suggested that the commission write a letter of recognition to the Lakewood Historical Society for all their hard work on the Cason Howell House remodel and also one for Barb Martin on her work obtaining the Three Generation Sculpture. Bob will bring a draft of the letters to the next meeting.

Bob gave a brief bio and showed videos of his performances.

NEW BUSINESS
¨ Bob Zachman announced the next ALL breakfast will be held Tuesday, May 18, at South Union Gallery. The Lakewood Arts Council will host the breakfast.
¨ Bob Zachman asked commissioners if they still wanted to have a potluck this year to include HCA staff. It was concluded that the potluck would be held September 15th, at the Heritage Visitor Center.
¨ Donald Tallman set up a tour of RMCAD for the next commission meeting, May 19th. Donald will email a map to each commissioner. Everyone will meet at 4pm at the Rotunda on campus. The Landmarks committee will also be invited.
¨ Jennifer Sylman announced that the O & O committee has four prospective committee members. The members will meet with the Executive committee within the next couple of weeks.
¨ Bob Zachman had asked Zach Matyja to work on producing a formal procedure for prospective committee members. Using the commission application as a model, Zach created a new committee application. Bob suggested asking prospective committee members to write a brief resume to submit to committee chairs. Bob also suggested that each committee write a summary of what it does. This could be used as a recruiting tool to prospective committee members.
¨ Cathy Te Slaa stated that the program committee would like to organize a speaker's bureau. Cathy and Bob Zachman will meet tomorrow to further discuss the prospect.
¨ Bob Zachman shared with the commission that Vicki Stack called last week and asked him to speak. It just shows other ways of promoting SCFD, HCA programs etc.

STAFF REPORTS
Susan Martin - stated that they had a terrific performance with Wendy Chen. Susan passed out the Summer Concert Series flyer. The summer concert series will be held on Wednesday nights this summer. The final performance of the series will be Lannie Garrett with her new show The Gypsy Swing Revue. Susan gave a brief update on upcoming performances. The City and Red Rocks Community College will co-present eight one-act plays this fall and it will be fully staged.
Mike Buhler - stated that in the next couple of weeks he would have the first Cider Days meeting. If anyone is interested in being on the planning committee to please let Mike know. Fusion Fest will be held June 19th. However, there will not be a Pow Wow contest this year. They will still have Native American drummers and dancers, just not a national contest. The next event coming up is the History Fair, May 4 & 6. Mike passed around a volunteer sign up sheet for the fair.
Niña Johnson - stated that an explosion of public art opportunities have come her way. 1)Alameda Gateway Association has put a formal bid on a rotating exhibit from Sheridan to Wadsworth, Wadsworth to Kipling. The exhibit would be installed starting June 2005. The exhibit theme would be speed and motion. 2) at Aviation Park, public art would rotate every three years. The theme would be motion in flight. Niña complimented Jan O'Connell on her hard work and dedication. HCA is going to be the beneficiary of the Century Theater new theater-opening program. When opening a new theater all proceeds are donated to the organization Century Theater chooses. The theater will sell approximately 800 tickets and there will be food available. The free movie event will take place on June 15th. If any commissioner would like to help sell tickets that would be great. The Preservation re-write made it through legal and is now with Kathy Hodgson, Director of the Department of Community Resources for review.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m. by unanimous vote.
