PROCLAMATION
In appreciation of
Chief Petty Officer Michael Byrd
In recognition of his conscientious and dedicated service
to the United States Navy
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lakewood desire to formally express appreciation to Michael Byrd, a Lakewood resident since 1986, for his dedicated service to this country; and
WHEREAS, Chief Petty Officer Byrd joined the Navy in June of 1974. He accepted orders to the USS Long Beach, followed by tours at GTMO Cuba, USS Miller, Naval Amphibious School, and Naval Reserve Recruiting Center Denver; and
WHEREAS, Chief Petty Officer Byrd transferred to the Naval Reserves but was recalled to active duty in September 1998. He served as an Officer recruiter for NRD Denver, and followed that assignment to the USS John Young, and ACU-1; and
WHEREAS, Chief Petty Officer Byrd earned many awards including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, three Meritorious Unit Commendations, two Battle "E" Ribbons, three Good Conduct Ribbons, two Navy Reserve Meritorious Service, two Navy Expeditionary Medals, three National Defense Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, the Recruiter Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal; and
WHEREAS, Chief Petty Officer Byrd retired from the United States Navy November 30, 2003 after 29 years of service; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that in conjunction with his retirement, we formally recognize his service to this Country and to express our sincere thanks for a job well done.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by the virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim appreciation to Michael Byrd for his 29 years of service to the United States Nave.
