RESOLUTION: 2003-86
SUBJECT: Design and re-construction of traffic signals at: US 285/Kipling Parkway;
I-70/Colfax Avenue; Simms Street/Colfax Avenue; and Kipling Street/6th Avenue
Frontage Road.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
These signalized intersections are high-accident locations that are in need of improved signal displays and equipment. Lakewood staff submitted these sites as a safety hazard elimination project through Denver Regional Council of Government's Transportation Improvement Plan process and was successful in obtaining federal funds. The traffic signal poles, mast arms, signal heads and detection equipment will be replaced to improve the visibility of the signal heads and the overall operational efficency of the signals. The City of Lakewood will administer the project and hire a consultant to design the project. The consultant expenses, estimated at $50,000, are included in the total project cost. The design should be completed by Summer 2004 so that construction can be completed by Spring 2005.
Federal funds totaling $1,250,000 have been obtained for the project for design and construction. The City's contribution is estimated to be $5,000. Administration of the project must be coordinated through the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in order to obtain the funds. The money for Lakewood's share is available from the Capital Improvement Fund.
