RESOLUTION: 2003-85
SUBJECT: Authorizing the expenditure of funds for the Carmody Recreation Center roof replacement.
ADDRESS: Carmody Recreation Center, 2200 S. Kipling Street, Lakewood, CO 80227
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with J.C. Brooks & Co., Inc. in the amount of $196,284.00 (One Hundred Ninety Six Thousand Two Hundred Eighty-Four Dollars) for replacement of the roof at the Carmody Recreation Center.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: This past spring, due to heavy snows, extensive damage occurred to a portion of the roof system at the Carmody Recreation Center indoor pool facility. Approximately 3,000 square feet of the roof system failed and requires replacement.
Structural engineers who evaluated the snow damage to this roof system also recommended permanent structural reinforcement work to roof sections not damaged by the snowstorm be completed. These structural reinforcement improvements would reduce chances for failure of these roof sections under similar snow conditions.
On October 9, 2003, bids were opened for the Carmody Recreation Center roof replacement. Work required for this bid includes the replacement of the 3,000 square feet of failed roof system and the recommended structural improvements. A total of four bidders responded. J. C. Brooks & Co., Inc. of Arvada, Colorado was the low bidder with a bid in the amount of $196,284.00.
Funding sources for this contract are as follows:
1. $162,261.00 authorized from the City's Insurance Fund for the replacement
of roof areas damaged by the snowstorm.
2. $34,023 authorized from the General Fund for the structural reinforcement
work to the remaining roof sections not damaged by this storm.
