RESOLUTION: 2003-83
SUBJECT: Final Design of Lakewood Gulch Stabilization Improvements
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve a contract with Muller Engineering Company for final design services for the Lakewood Gulch Stabilization project.
FUNDING SOURCE: Stormwater Management Utility
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: City staff has been working with fourteen property owners along Lakewood Gulch between Garrison Street and Independence Street to correct several bank erosion problems and prevent future erosion. Lakewood Gulch west of Garrison is north of 9th Avenue and generally follows back lot lines in this residential neighborhood.
The City hired Muller Engineering to develop conceptual solutions to the erosion problems. Meetings were held with the fourteen property owners to look at possible solutions along this reach of Lakewood Gulch. A conceptual design for improvements to Lakewood Gulch has been prepared considering the property owners' input.
Muller has submitted a proposal to perform final design services on this project. Muller's familiarity with the project and the relationship and trust established with the property owners make Muller a logical choice to perform this work. Muller has designed several comparable drainageway maintenance projects for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (District) and is one of the City's pre-qualified consultants for design of Stormwater Utility projects. Final design costs will not exceed $85,000.
