A RESOLUTION

LENGTHENING THE TERMS AND CHANGING THE EXPIRATION DATE OF THE TERMS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY COMMISSION

WHEREAS, the Cultural Diversity Commission was created by City Council in 1991 by Resolution 91-111 to promote understanding of various cultures; and

WHEREAS, Resolution 99-111 established staggered two year terms which expire on August 26th of the member's second year in office; and

WHEREAS, City Council finds that it will be more efficient and practical to establish staggered terms of office with a length of four years and to change the expiration date of the term.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The current term expiration date for members of the Cultural Diversity Commission is August 26th of the last year of the member's term. Said expiration date is hereby changed to September 30th of the last year of the member's term.

SECTION 2. The length of the term for members of the Cultural Diversity Commission shall be increased from a two year term to a four year term. Those members of the Cultural Diversity Commission whose terms currently expire on August 26, 2004 shall have their term extended to September 30th 2006. Those members of the Cultural Diversity Commission whose terms currently expire on August 26, 2005 shall have their term extended to September 30th 2007. Thereafter all terms shall be for a period of four years.

SECTION 3. The Mayor may appoint one or more City Council members to serve as liaison to the Cultural Diversity Commission. The City Manager may appoint one or more staff members to serve as liaison to the Cultural Diversity Commission.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon its passage
and approval.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 9 for and 0 against at a regular meeting of the City Council on October 13, 2003, at 7 o'clock p.m. at Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
