RESOLUTION: 2003-66
SUBJECT: Construction of roadway improvements at Kipling Parkway and Morrison Road.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The City of Lakewood has received funds for the improvement of the Kipling Parkway and Morrison Road Intersection improvements through the Denver Regional Council of Government's Transportation Improvement Plan process. The project was submitted to improve safety and capacity at the intersection.
Federal funds available will provide a new traffic signal, new medians on Morrison Road and double left turns in all four directions to accommodate additional traffic capacity. The design is complete, the construction work can be advertised, bid and awarded during the last quarter of 2003. Construction is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2004.
Federal and state funds totaling $1,762,000 have been obtained for the project. The City's contribution is estimated to be $270,000. Administration of the project must be coordinated through the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in order to obtain the federal funds. The money for Lakewood's share is available from the Capital Improvement Fund and through in-kind services provided by Lakewood staff.
