Request for Council Action for Resolution 2003-49 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2003-49

SUBJECT: Approval of a Resolution authorizing the donation of a Lakewood Police Department Animal Control Section vehicle to Table Mountain Animal Center (TMAC).

RECOMMENDATION: Mayor and City Council authorize the donation of the animal control vehicle to TMAC.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The Lakewood Police Department's Animal Control Section is replacing an animal control vehicle under the normal fleet services schedule. As part of an intergovernmental agreement, the City of Lakewood, along with the other municipalities in Jefferson County, utilize TMAC as its impound, shelter, and adoption facility. The donation of this van will provide the TMAC staff with the ability to transport animals to veterinarians for required spay/neuter surgery prior to being picked up by the adopting family. Additionally, it will allow participation in community events and special adoption days outside the normal TMAC daily activities.

Lakewood donated a used animal control vehicle to TMAC in the past (1997). TMAC decorated the van with its logo and still uses it to this day. It has assisted the center's staff in meeting the goal of spaying and neutering all animals that are adopted from the shelter, and continues to be utilized in providing services to Lakewood citizens and to Jefferson County residents.

The vehicle which would be donated is a 1998 GMC van,
VIN # 1GTGG25R0W1101801.
