Request for Council Actionfor Resolution 2003-41 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2003-41

SUBJECT: Approval of contract for Belmar Park Detention Pond

ADDRESS: 801 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, CO 80226

RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Community Resources recommends the approval of this resolution to contract with Levi Contractors, Inc., to construct a water quality detention pond in Belmar Park.

FUNDING SOURCE: City Open Space Fund

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Over the years the storm sewer outfall from the Heritage Center parking lot has scoured a channel from its end point to Weir Gulch. To preserve the resources and enhance the safety of Belmar Park it was determined that the channel should be piped. As part of the project the Department decided it would be prudent to bring the run-off release to today's standards. The parking lot was originally built without storm water detention (none was required when it was constructed). Along with piping the project includes a water quality detention pond to improve the quality of the water returning to Weir Gulch. The project was not originally anticipated to cost over $50,000 and was therefore not included in last year's budget list of large projects. Since the low bid is over $50,000, Council authorization is required.
