A RESOLUTION

ENDORSING THE CANDIDACY OF LAKEWOOD MAYOR STEVE BURKHOLDER FOR RE-ELECTION TO THE COLORADO MUNICIPAL LEAGUE (CML) EXECUTIVE BOARD IN THE LARGE POPULATION CATEGORY, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, COLORADO

WHEREAS, Steve Burkholder was elected in 1999 to his current position as Mayor of Lakewood, Colorado's fourth-largest city, and before that served a four-year term as a member of the Lakewood City Council; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Burkholder serves as a member of the CML Executive Board; is a respected national voice on the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities; and serves on the executive committees of the Metro Mayors Caucus and the Transit Alliance; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Burkholder is a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, successfully completed CML's Municipal Elected Officials Leadership Training Program, and also was selected to participate in the Mayors' Design Institute; and

WHEREAS, Steve has long demonstrated his commitment to community service through participation in many activities, such as serving as founding chairman of Leadership Jefferson County, as past chairman of the West Chamber Serving Jefferson County, as a trustee of the LMC Community Foundation, and as an advisor to the Colorado Forum on Growth Issues; and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakewood wishes to endorse the candidacy of Mayor Steve Burkholder for the Executive Board of the Colorado Municipal League;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Lakewood does hereby officially endorse the candidacy of the City of Lakewood's Mayor Steve Burkholder for the Executive Board of the Colorado Municipal League, in the large population category.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 11 for and 0 against at a regular meeting of the City Council on May 12, 2003, at 7 p.m., at Lakewood Civic Center, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
