A RESOLUTION

ENCOURAGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO CREATE A FEDERAL TAX INCENTIVE TO PROMOTE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT; AND TO ENACT AN ENERGY BILL THAT INCLUDES DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS THAT EMPLOY GREEN BUILDING TECHNIQUES; AND TO SPECIFICALLY REQUEST THAT THE BELMAR PROJECT IN LAKEWOOD, COLORADO BE ONE OF THE PROJECTS DESIGNATED.

WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood, Colorado, is dedicated to environmental remediation, efficient transportation systems, resource conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy; and

WHEREAS, Belmar in Lakewood, Colorado is being developed by Continuum Partners as a model of smart growth infill development in the rapidly growing Rocky Mountain Region; and

WHEREAS, Belmar is a major infill redevelopment that includes 3.5 million square feet of residences, offices and shops near a planned light rail corridor; and

WHEREAS, this 21st century urban village will employ building techniques intended to reduce energy consumption by as much as 50 percent;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that the City of Lakewood encourages Congress to include Belmar in a list of demonstration projects to receive federal tax incentives in the way of tax-exempt bonds that could be used to help fund green building techniques in the construction of this multi-use project.
